Title: The importance of mental health in a modern world
Career: Psychology

Psychology is a career with multiple ways of approaching and exerting, all depending on what you want to do, if you want to understand the process that happens in our brain before doing something you can study Neuropsychology, or if you are the type that prefers to help with the mental health of others, you could focus your studies on the clinical part, even if you are interested in the business field, you can study work psychology, which would position you in human resources.

  • What is Psychology?

But first we need to know, What is Psychology?, well is the science that studies human behavior and all the processes that it includes. But the core of any psychologist, to put it another way, is to provide psychological help to others, what I mean by this is helping with a person's mental health which is usually covered in the format of therapies,

In these therapies, the therapist is focused on the emotions and what causes these emotions, it is a slow and sometimes long process since both the patient and the therapist must be willing to make a change and after a while the psychologist can give a verdict on what you could be having or what situation or people causes these emotions to come to the surface.

  • Area of Specialization

As previously mentioned, psychology has many ways of being applied and these are known as branches or formally called areas of specialty, the way to obtain the specialty you like is conceived like any other specialty, first, you study the degree of your career, which in this case psychology normally takes you between 3 to 4 years, once you graduate there you will be able to study your selected specialty.

But why do you need a skill in the first place? Well, it's quite simple, the possibilities can be reduced to that you would need it if you aspire to an important position, or perhaps that it was the main reason why you studied psychology, even just for the mere fact that you like to study and learn new things.

  • Importance

The importance of psychology has only become more relevant, since its creation during the Industrial Revolution it was a very ambiguous topic where they tried to pigeonhole everything that was considered something outside the norm, but by exploiting its potential we have been capable of reaching borders quite far from the beginning, such as neuropsychology.

Psychology may not be a vital career like medicine, engineering, law or everything that is related to the educational sector, however, psychology offers us a broader panorama of how the members that make up said society function, which could make it relatively easier to operate.

  • Job Prospects

Your job prospects depend mainly on the specialization you study, but the average job would be a therapist, if you study neuropsychology you could work in rehabilitation centers giving neuropsychological care, in Neurology medical services, or if you study educational psychology you could not only teach in high schools and universities but you could also provide help to children who need special education.

The possibilities are basically only limited to what you want to do and what the job requires, or you could also take the big leap and start a business focused on what you want to do, for example Carlitos Quintero is an independent civil association that is dedicated to address Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), ASD-Autism, Intellectual Disability, Learning Problems, Language Problems. Provides help to both parents and children on how to prevent their situation from preventing them from having a normal life.

  • Conclusion

Many people, especially from past generations, have very inflexible opinions about psychology, they do not consider it a true science, that it will not bring you money, and that you will die of hunger, in particular, their opinion towards therapies is very hostile, saying that only crazy people go there, this could be because it is a relatively new concept and the social context is very different compared to what we live in today.

But as time goes by, society has become more aware of dangerous mental illnesses such as: schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression, to name a few, and we have become more open to treating them instead of using impractical and dangerous treatments such as lobotomy, shock therapy, and the isolation in asylums or prisons where they were left to die of starvation.

If you study psychology you will not get money and you will die of hunger, that could not be more outdated since, as I had already mentioned before, people become more accustomed to going to therapy to solve their problems, but because it is a slow process, many they do not have enough patience to stay for a while, I would say that the income of a psychologist is somewhat unstable, since the problem itself is no longer the amount but the time that the patients will continue to pay, because the sessions range from 500 to almost 1,500 pesos.

Finally, I will say that if you are the type of person who is interested in helping someone in need, be it a friend or a stranger, being a psychologist could be the dream job, but keep your feet on the ground and be realistic with the pros and cons, And as in any other career that you are interested in studying, do not lose hope, all those who trust in you know that you are going to achieve it.
