Odontology: Great smile for a better life
What is?
Dentistry is the branch of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and conditions related to the oral cavity and its surrounding structures. Simply put, it takes care of people's oral and dental health.
How much time do you need to study?
Becoming a dentist typically requires completing several years of college education, followed by four years of dental school. In total, it can take around 8 years of study after high school to become a fully qualified dentist.
What are The fundaments?
he fundamentals of dentistry include a variety of disciplines that provide the foundation for understanding oral and dental health. Some of these fundamentals are:
1. Oral and dental anatomy: study of the structure and function of oral and dental tissues.
2. Oral physiology: understanding how the systems and structures in the oral cavity function.
3. Oral pathology: study of diseases that affect oral and dental tissues.
4. Biochemistry and microbiology: understanding the chemical processes and microbiology related to oral health.
5. Pharmacology: knowledge of medications used in dental treatment and their effect on the body.
6. Dental radiology: interpretation of radiographic images for the diagnosis and treatment of dental problems.
7. Preventive Dentistry: Focus on preventing dental disease through education and preventive care.
8. Restorative Dentistry: Techniques to restore dental function and aesthetics, such as fillings and crowns.
9. Periodontics: study and treatment of diseases of the gums and dental supporting tissues.
10. Oral surgery: surgical procedures performed in the oral cavity, such as dental extractions and dental implants.
Conclusion
In my personal opinion, I think that a career in dentistry is very interesting since it involves many entertaining concepts and knowledge, as well as important ones, really based on the care of teeth. It is a specialty that requires a lot of care in addition to time and dedication, even so I would like to study this career since I see myself dedicating years of work as a dentist, perhaps having my own premises or renting one but if I dedicate myself to that for pleasure
In addition, dentistry is fascinating for its unique combination of science, art and practical skills. It offers the opportunity to improve people's oral health, transform smiles and ultimately improve patients' quality of life. Additionally, it is a constantly evolving career, with technological advances and innovative techniques that maintain interest and challenge professionals to continue learning and growing in their practice.
Clearly not everything is positive and a negative conclusion can also lead from painful and traumatizing procedures to serious complications such as infections or permanent tissue damage. Poor work can have lasting repercussions on the patient's oral health and quality of life. Additionally, it can erode trust in the dental profession as a whole, creating distrust and fear in those who need dental care.
